Consultation and Training

As a mental health provider, I understand the importance of continually building upon our training, education, experience, and research.

In this dynamic profession, there is no one-size-fits-all playbook for addressing clinical situations or business challenges. With over 30 years of experience in practice management and clinical work, I have successfully navigated a variety of clinical issues and operational problems. I’ve provided clinical consultation services to fully licensed professionals, business owners, and executives since 2014, and supervision toward licensure since 1995. Additionally, I’ve provided consultation towards ASCH certification in clinical hypnosis since 2016.

Over time, my consultation topics have evolved alongside my expanding knowledge and deepening practice experience. I view my role as a consultant as a blend of being an educator, an advisor, a learner, and a mentor. My approach is relationally based and collaborative. I am focused on being interactive and supportive.

For those interested in pursuing consultation services with me, I offer a pro-bono 30-minute meeting to clarify if working together is a good fit. This can include a discussion of your professional goals regarding consultation, answering questions about our approaches and experience, etc. Basically, whatever is needed to determine a good fit or not.

Benefits of Consultation

My consultation services are typically divided into two categories: clinical consultation and business consultation.

Consultation provides numerous benefits, both for the individual provider seeking clinical consultation and for the broader field of healthcare in practice management.

Some key advantages include:

Professional Development and Personal Growth: Consultation offers an opportunity to enhance clinical skills, knowledge, and expertise. Regular consultation can lead to the improvement of clinical skills, and a more holistic approach to client care, with different perspectives contributing to treatment planning and results in improved client care and clinical outcomes.

Support and Ethical Guidance: The old adage “two heads are better than one” holds true in the world of healthcare and most professions. Collaborative approaches and case reviews result in more effective treatment strategies, and problem-solving, reducing professional isolation. Consultation also helps providers navigate complex clinical issues, business conflicts, and ethical dilemmas.

Second opinions support good practice. In some cases, consultation can provide legal protection. Having a second opinion can be invaluable in court or responding to a licensing board complaint. It demonstrates that recommendations and decisions were not made in isolation and reinforcing your commitment to quality care.

Personal Growth: In addition to professional development, people often experience personal growth during the consultation process. This can result in increased confidence and self-awareness, as it involves recognizing one’s own biases, triggers, emotional reactions, strengths, and areas of growth.

Business operations and personal issues: For small businesses or practices without in-house experts, a business consultant can provide essential knowledge in various aspects of running an operation. Business challenges often revolve around communication, strategic planning, problem-solving, and change management. My perspective as a social worker focuses on promoting positive change and effective organizational systems. For healthcare providers and business owners who lack formal business training but find themselves in management roles, consultation is crucial for success.

Overall, whether for clinical guidance, professional development, or business operations, consultation is a valuable resource that enhances the quality of operations, and client care, fosters professional growth, and contributes to the well-being of busy professionals, business owners, care providers, and their clients.

Training & Educational Workshops

I offer workshops on various subjects for mental health care professionals and business settings.  Workshop duration is flexible, ranging from one to two hours to full-day or multi-day options. I offer both in-person and remote workshops.

My workshops primarily focus on my areas of clinical expertise, including trauma, addictions, stress management, team building, interpersonal challenges, general education on common mental health issues, and the applications of clinical hypnosis.

Distinguishing Between Consultation and Clinical Supervision

It’s essential to differentiate between clinical supervision and clinical consultation, both professionally and legally.

Clinical Consultation is typically designed for licensed professionals and focuses on guidance, professional development, specific clinical issues, skill development, and expertise in particular areas. As a consultant, I consult with you on your clinical work, and you bear the ethical and legal responsibility for your clinical decisions and clients as a licensed practitioner.

In contrast, Clinical Supervision is usually a structured process with specific requirements and standards during a licensing process. Each clinical license outlines the requirements for both the Clinical Supervisor and Supervisee. In Clinical Supervision, the supervisor assumes oversight responsibility for clinical decisions and may provide directives for action.

If you are interested in supervision rather than consultation, depending on your requirements, I may be able to provide supervision toward licensure.

Individual Consultation for ASCH certification in Clinical Hypnosis

I hold credentials from the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH) as an Approved Consultant in Clinical Hypnosis, representing ASCH’s advanced level of certification in clinical hypnosis.

As a certified professional in clinical hypnosis, I’m qualified to offer individual training and consultation for the clinical applications of hypnosis. ASCH-approved Consultants can provide individualized training and consultation hours for those seeking ASCH Certification in Clinical Hypnosis.

I offer both individual and group consultation that fulfills the 20-hour individual consultation requirement for ASCH certification. I tailor consultation hours to align with your interests, clinical practice areas, and professional development needs.
